Unwrapping

The Unwrapping section offers essential tools to generate UV maps for your 3D models. Whether you're preparing assets for UDIM workflows, texture painting, or baking maps, this section gives you two options: Unwrap and Smart UV Project. These tools are designed to help you create clean, optimized UV layouts quickly and with minimal manual setup.

  • Unwrap This function performs a standard unwrap. It uses Blender's native unwrapping system to flatten your 3D mesh into 2D UV space, preserving geometry proportions and minimizing distortion. It’s ideal when you’ve carefully placed seams (for example, using the Auto Seams tool) and want precise control over how your UVs unfold.

  • Smart UV Project This is an automatic UV generation method that doesn’t require any seams. It analyzes the model and breaks it into multiple UV islands based on angle thresholds and surface shape. It’s a fast and convenient solution when you don’t need manual control or are working on hard-surface models or props. Smart UV Project is especially useful for quick bakes, previews, or when you need to unwrap large numbers of assets efficiently.

Why It’s Useful

  • Fast & Flexible UV Generation: Whether you need full manual control or a quick automatic layout, the Unwrapping section provides both options at your fingertips.

  • Optimized for UDIM Workflows: Clean UVs are essential when distributing textures across multiple UDIM tiles. Using Unwrap or Smart UV Project helps create islands that are easy to organize, pack, and manage.

  • Saves Time: No need to jump between menus—everything is accessible in one clean interface, so you can unwrap and move on to the next step faster.

The Unwrapping section gives you everything you need to generate clean, professional UV maps—either manually with Unwrap or automatically with Smart UV Project. Whether you're working on game assets, films, or high-resolution UDIM layouts, these tools help you build a strong UV foundation for seamless texturing and efficient production.
